Review of Mr. Nozzle Vacuum Hose, Claw Nozzle, and Crevice Nozzle (#100-DB Kit) - Part 1 of 2: Main

Frustration with Original Vacuum Hose for Wet/Dry Utility Vac

original vacuum hose often collapses at bends

Since I purchased my Fein 9-77-25 wet/dry utility vacuum from amazon.com for $290 in November 2004, it has been a solid performer over the past four plus years I have owned it. The one small gripe I had in an otherwise stellar product was the lack of vacuum attachments Fein includes with it.

Fein includes a mediocre 10' plastic vacuum hose, but that's it. I had purchased some generic nozzles at the local Home Depot, but they were nothing to write home about either in the quality department. And just recently, the original factory hose began to crumble and repeated collapse when I started using my wet/dry vac hot liquids when cleaning up the carpet during doggy potty training using hot water extraction (or steam cleaning).

Thus, I was anxious to try out the 12' vacuum hose and claw nozzle made by Mr. Nozzle...

Purchase of Mr. Nozzle #100-DB Vacuum Kit (12' Vacuum Hose, Claw Nozzle, Crevice Nozzle)

Mr. Nozzle #100-DB Kit includes 12' hose and claw and crevice nozzles
Mr. Nozzle #100-DB Kit out of the box comes with (1) 12' hose, (2) Claw Nozzle, and (3) Crevice Nozzle.

After looking around, I found essentially that the hose had to be purchased as part of a kit with attachments. The selling of kits makes sense since the 1.5" Mr. Nozzle hose requires attachments that are non-standard. For example, my OEM Fein 2.25" hose and 1.25" hose attachments do not readily fit the 1.5" Mr. Nozzle. (See following section for more detail.)

I decided to get one of the cheapest and smallest kits sold, Mr. Nozzle #100-DB Kit for $39 at amazon.com. The Mr. Nozzle #100-DB kit comes with 12' hose, claw nozzle, and crevice nozzle. I would later find value in the Mr. Nozzle 12' hose and claw nozzle with the crevice nozzle being mediocre.

The Problem of Incompatible Hose Attachments From Different Vacuum Hose Sizes

A Detailed Examination of Hose Fittings

a detailed examination of vacuum hose fittings

It turns out all three hoses (Mr. Nozzle, Fein 9-77-25 OEM 2.25" hose, Fein 9-55-13 OEM 1.25" hose) fit a my wet/dry vacuum. Only attachment incompatibility is a problem. An additional quirkiness with the Mr. Nozzle attachment end is that the attachment fits into the hose. With all other hoses, the attachment fits over the hose.

Before buying the Mr. Nozzle vacuum hose, I already had two different sized-hoses: (1) My 1.25" OEM hose from my Fein 9-55-13 wet/dry utility vac (motor burned out from sucking too much sawdust) and (2) my 2.25" OEM hose from my Fein 9-77-25 wet/dry utility vac. As you might have guessed, the attachments from my 1.25" hose and 2.25" hose were not compatible with each other.

The 1.5" OEM Mr. Nozzle hose means I would have a 3rd set of incompatible hose attachments. The attachment hose incompatibility from different size hoses is a serious nuisance. I remember reading a technical paper once that commented the nice thing about standards is that there are so many to chose from.

Nevertheless, I still wanted the Mr. Nozzle hose because my 2.25" hose was crumbling apart and not regularly kinking up when vacuuming up water during my hot water extraction cleaning efforts.
