Partial Disassembly of the Black and Decker 18V Pivot (Model #PHV1800) and Dyson Root 6 (DC16) Handheld Vacuums

Partially disassembled Black and Decker Pivot handheld vacuum (above) and Dyson Root 6 (below). Noteworthy Differences between Black & Decker Pivot and Dyson Root 6:

  • Note the integrated, permanent NiCad battery cells are spot-welded into place with the Black and Decker Pivot while the Dyson Root 6 has removable Lithium Ion battery pack. In fact, the old-tech NiCad battery cells comprise most of the weight of the Pivot.
  • The Pivot's clear canister is non-removable while the Root 6's is removable and, hence, easier to clean.
  • The motor on the Dyson Root 6 vacuum is substantially bigger and more heavy duty.
  • There appears to be more electronics sophistication in the Dyson Root 6 than the Black & Decker Pivot.
